How Much Is a 14K Gold Necklace Worth?

A 14K necklace or Cuban chain is evaluated using its gold content, weight, and construction. Diamond-set chains may require separate consideration of the stones.

Thinking of selling your 14K necklace or Cuban chain in Los Angeles? Learn how our in-person gold jewelry evaluations in Los Angeles work and arrange a visit. Bring the complete piece; the final offer depends on inspection, not a calculator alone.

Ready to move from a value estimate to an offer? Our gold and natural-diamond chain buying service explains what to bring and how to compare the metal, stones and complete piece at an in-person evaluation.

Start with the necklace’s weight and purity

A 14K necklace contains gold alloyed with other metals. The World Gold Council explains the nominal 14/24 purity and common fineness markings. To understand a metal-value estimate, you need its gold content and the weight attributable to that material. A chain’s length or width alone does not provide those figures.

Look for any markings near the clasp, but have the actual piece evaluated before relying on a karat assumption. Read how gold is valued for a fuller explanation of the process.

An example of gold content, not a live quote

For an illustrative calculation, 10 grams of 14K gold contains about 5.83 grams of pure gold. If pure gold were hypothetically $100 per gram, the gold content in that example would be about $583.

This calculation is an example only. It is not today’s gold price and it is not a purchase offer. It assumes the weight is gold alloy and excludes adjustments for stones, other components, and the evaluation of the actual necklace.

Two necklaces with similar dimensions can have different weights. Cuban link chains, delicate necklaces, and hollow designs need to be evaluated as the pieces they are. Ask how the buyer accounts for construction and condition.

A necklace evaluation considers the chain and pendant individually.

A maker’s signature, unusual design, or accompanying documentation may also merit discussion. Do not assume that the complete piece must be valued solely as scrap. Bring any paperwork you already have without delaying a call if it is missing.

What if the necklace has diamonds?

A diamond-set necklace needs consideration of its stones as well as its gold. Total scale weight includes both. Ask how the buyer assessed the diamonds and whether the purchase amount covers the complete piece.

Cash 4 Gold & Diamonds buys gold necklaces and Cuban chains with or without diamonds. If you have grading reports or original documentation, bring them with the matching items. Our diamond-buying page explains how to arrange a stone evaluation.

Does a broken necklace still have value?

Broken links, damaged clasps, and detached sections can still be brought for evaluation. Keep the pieces together and describe any known repairs. You do not need to make the necklace wearable before asking about a purchase.

If you also have single earrings, damaged bracelets, or other unwanted gold, bring them with the chain. See our scrap gold guide for preparation advice.

Compare offers for your actual necklace

Compare the same item or group of items when reviewing offers. Ask for the basis of the amount and check whether stones and other components were included. An advertised rate or the retail listing of another necklace cannot establish your final payout.

Questions about 14K necklace value

Can I get a final offer from a necklace calculator?

No. A calculator provides an estimate based on the inputs you enter. The final purchase offer requires evaluation of the actual necklace and agreement on the terms.

Can I sell several necklaces at once?

Yes. We welcome multiple necklaces, Cuban chains, bracelets, and other gold pieces. Call ahead for a substantial collection so you can discuss timing and payment.

How much gold is in a 20-inch 14K gold chain?

Length alone cannot tell you. Chains of the same length vary widely in weight with link style and thickness. Once the net 14K weight is known, multiply it by about 0.583; hypothetically, a 30-gram chain contains about 17.5 grams of pure gold. Our 10K gold value guide shows the same method for 10K.

Is a hollow 14K chain worth less than a solid one?

Usually, if they look the same size. A hollow chain uses less metal, so it weighs less and contains less gold than a solid chain of similar width. Value follows the actual net weight, and hollow links can also be more easily dented or damaged.

Are a chain and pendant weighed together?

They should be assessed separately when they differ. A pendant may be a different karat, contain stones, or be hollow, and the chain may have a steel clasp spring. Ask how each part was tested and weighed so the total is not treated as one piece of 14K gold.
