How Much Is My Gold Worth? Build a Valuation Checklist
To estimate your gold, list each piece, its measured metal weight, verified purity and a dated gold-price reference in matching units. Keep unknown inputs visible and compare the result with an actual purchase offer; the estimate is not a guaranteed payout.

Build a list before doing the calculation
Use one line per item or clearly identified group. Start with a description you can match back to the jewelry: “broken yellow chain with detached clasp” is more useful than “miscellaneous gold.” Keep a photograph or count for your own records.
| Record | What to note |
|---|---|
| Item | Description, quantity and whether the piece is complete |
| Material | Visible mark, tested purity and any uncertainty |
| Weight | Unit used and whether stones or other components are included |
| Documents | Reports, maker records or repair history that match the item |
| Offer | Included pieces, final amount, conditions and payment method |
Separate a marking from a verified input
The World Gold Council explains karat and fineness: 18K is 75% gold, while 14K is approximately 58.3%. A stamp is information to investigate, not a substitute for assessing the piece. Write “marked 14K, not yet tested” when that is all you know.
Do not include gemstone weight as though it were gold alloy. Repairs, springs and other components can also change the applicable weight. Ask the buyer which measurement and purity were used before comparing calculations.
Work through a clearly hypothetical example
Suppose a plain piece contains 10 grams of verified 18K alloy, with no other components in that measurement. Its fine-gold content is 10 × 18 ÷ 24 = 7.5 grams. If a hypothetical pure-gold reference were $100 per gram, the reference metal value would be $750.

The $100 figure is an illustration, not today's gold price. The $750 is a calculated metal reference, not an offer from Cash 4 Gold & Diamonds. For a real calculation, use a dated reference such as the World Gold Council's gold-price data, checking currency and units.
Our guide to how gold is valued explains the calculation and purchase context in more depth.
Flag pieces that need more than a gold calculation
Keep diamond-set Cuban chains, signed jewelry and coins on separate lines. A metal estimate alone does not account for every stone, a complete jewelry piece or potential collectible characteristics. Bring existing records and ask how each factor was treated.
For a group of damaged jewelry, use our scrap-gold guide. Leave pieces intact until you have discussed the evaluation.
Use the worksheet to compare final offers
Ask whether each amount covers the same items and whether any conditions or charges remain. There is no universal payout percentage that establishes the correct result for every collection. Record the final amount you would receive and the payment arrangements.
Cash 4 Gold & Diamonds buys gold, scrap, Cuban chains with or without diamonds, and gold and silver coins. Large quantities are welcome at 617 S. Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90014. Arrange an evaluation and discuss cash, bank wire or business-check payment.
Do I need to weigh everything before visiting?
No. A home measurement is optional and may include stones or use an unsuitable unit or scale. Bring the items and ask for the measurements used in the purchase evaluation.
