2 Carat Diamond Ring Price: How to Compare Complete Quotes

Compare complete quotes for specifically described two-carat diamonds and settings. Weight alone does not set the price, and a ring labeled two carats total can contain several smaller diamonds instead of a two-carat center stone.

Confirm that the descriptions refer to the same thing

A two-carat center diamond and a ring with two carats of diamonds combined are different products. Ask which weight is being advertised before comparing prices. The presence of side stones or a halo should be described separately from the center diamond.

GIA defines a metric carat as 200 milligrams, so a two-carat diamond weighs 0.4 grams. Weight is not a face-up measurement. Two stones of the same carat weight can have different dimensions and shapes; our carat-weight guide explains how to read both.

Compare the actual natural diamonds

Record the laboratory, report number, shape, measurements and quality information for each candidate. GIA’s quality-factor guide explains why cut, color, clarity and carat should be considered together. A two-carat label alone is not a comparable specification.

View the stone when possible and ask about the characteristics described on its report. Do not assume that every diamond at a selected clarity grade will look identical or that a color range will appear colorless to every observer. For an oval, compare its actual outline and light pattern using the questions in our oval diamond guide.

Read dimensions and report fields in context

GIA’s sample reports illustrate how measurements, quality information and comments are recorded. A chart showing one approximate dimension for each shape is only an illustration; it does not establish the dimensions of the diamond offered to you.

Ask which cut information is supplied for that shape. Do not treat polish or symmetry as though either were an overall cut grade. For a mounted stone, clarify whether a quoted weight is measured or estimated and what records support it.

Compare alternatives within the budget you choose. A stone slightly below two carats may be worth considering, but do not assume a guaranteed discount or an identical appearance. Obtain actual descriptions and quotes for the options in front of you.

Use a different comparison when selling

A retail quote concerns buying a ring. A resale offer concerns what a buyer will pay for your existing piece under stated terms. Use our diamond resale offer guide to compare the same complete item, deductions and payment conditions.

Cash 4 Gold & Diamonds buys natural cut and polished diamonds in any size or shape. We do not buy laboratory-grown, uncut or rough diamonds. Bring your ring and existing paperwork to 617 S. Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90014, or contact us at 310-663-1340.

Should a two-carat diamond cost exactly twice a one-carat diamond?

No. Weight is only one part of the description. Compare the actual stones and transaction terms instead of applying a multiplication rule.

Does a two-carat total ring contain one two-carat diamond?

Not necessarily. Total weight combines the diamonds specified in the description. Ask for the center stone’s individual weight.
