Describe the watch without assumptions about size

Do not stretch a bracelet, force a clasp or improvise a repair. Keep any detached parts with the watch and explain what happened. A polished appearance should not hide a functional issue.
Gather service and family records
Bring service invoices, purchase documents, warranty papers and the box if available. For an inherited watch, distinguish remembered family history from documented dates or maker information.
A stopped movement needs diagnosis rather than an assumed battery change. Use the manufacturer's support for the specific watch; Rolex's care and service pages are one such source. Avoid water cleaning or opening an unfamiliar older watch.
Request evaluation before cosmetic work
If the purpose is selling, ask about the watch in its current condition before commissioning polishing, stone replacement or refinishing. Those expenses do not guarantee an equivalent increase in a purchase offer.
