Compare Gold Buyer Offers: Estimates, Weights & Final Amounts
Compare the final purchase amounts offered for the same items and under the same conditions. Record the tested purity, applicable weight, treatment of stones, remaining charges and payment terms. A preliminary quote or advertised percentage alone is not enough to rank an offer.

Make one list of the pieces being compared
Photograph or describe each ring, chain, bracelet and coin group so you know what a total includes. Separate items you plan to keep. If an offer is for a complete lot, ask for a revised amount before assuming it also applies when you remove a piece.
Keep a diamond bracelet or signed jewel identifiable instead of mixing it into ordinary scrap. Our gold-selling options guide explains the evaluation questions for different collections.
Record the inputs behind each amount
- Buyer and date of the evaluation.
- Items, stones and accessories included.
- Verified purity and net alloy weight, with units.
- Price reference and whether it is for pure gold or a specific alloy.
- Final amount after any stated charges.
- Remaining checks, offer validity and payment arrangements.
The World Gold Council's dated gold-price data is a reference for checking a market input. It is not a substitute for an item-specific offer, and a price from one date should not be presented as another day's rate.
Check a mixed-karat collection without blending assumptions
For an illustrative quantity example, 15 grams of verified 14K alloy contains nominally 8.75 grams of gold; eight grams of verified 18K alloy contains six grams. Together that is 14.75 grams of contained gold, assuming the alloy weights exclude stones and other components.

The World Gold Council explains the purity proportions. Keep each group separate in your notes. Do not apply the highest karat to the whole collection or apply an alloy fraction again to a rate that already accounts for it.
Resolve differences before calling one offer better
If the weights differ, ask whether both buyers included the same pieces and used the same unit. If purity differs, ask about the test and whether a clasp, repair or plated area affected the reading. If one offer includes a diamond and another excludes it, the totals are not directly comparable yet.
A difference does not establish dishonesty by itself. Buyers may have different resale plans, costs or information. The useful next step is an explanation of the included items and final amount. See how testing and weight inform an offer.
Keep estimates and purchase offers separate
A photograph may help describe a piece without confirming its purity, weight or components. Mark a phone or online estimate as preliminary until the buyer explains what remains to be checked. Also distinguish an outright purchase from a loan, trade-in or consignment arrangement.
Before accepting, confirm the payment method, timing and sale terms, and keep the transaction record. No fixed percentage or business category can guarantee the strongest outcome for every item.
