Sell Gold in Los Angeles: Options, Evaluation & Payment

To sell gold in Los Angeles, first identify the types of items you have and choose a buyer suited to them. Compare final offers for the same pieces, with tested purity, weight and payment terms explained. Cash 4 Gold & Diamonds buys gold, scrap, Cuban chains and gold or silver coins in Downtown LA.

Start with the items you actually want to sell

A broken chain, diamond bracelet, signed ring and collectible coin should not all be treated as the same material on a scale. Sort what you can identify and leave uncertain pieces for examination. Keep any items you intend to retain separate from those you may sell.

Cash 4 Gold & Diamonds buys gold jewelry, scrap gold, Cuban chains and bracelets with or without diamonds, gold coins and silver coins at 617 S. Hill Street, Los Angeles, CA 90014. Single pieces and substantial quantities are welcome. Our gold-buying service explains the main buying categories.

Choose an evaluation that fits the collection

What you haveWhat to discuss
Broken or unwanted goldTested purity, net metal weight and detached parts
Cuban chains or braceletsSolid or hollow construction, clasp components and any diamonds
Gold or silver coinsExact issue, metal content, condition and collectible characteristics
Diamond or designer jewelryStone information, maker documentation and the complete piece
Luxury watchesReference, components, condition and service history

Use our scrap-gold preparation guide, Cuban and 14K chain guide, or coin collection checklist for the relevant items. Gold coins and silver coins should be identified individually or in clearly matched groups; face value is not a purchase valuation.

Understand the material calculation

Karat describes a proportion of gold in an alloy. Nominal 10K is about 41.67% gold, 14K about 58.33%, 18K 75% and 22K about 91.67%. The World Gold Council explains purity and fineness. Higher purity means more gold only when the applicable alloy weights are equal.

A scale reading for a complete piece may also include diamonds, other stones, springs or other materials. Ask which weight and tested fraction are used. A stamp helps identify a question to investigate; it does not establish the composition on its own. The FTC's jewelry guide explains common metal descriptions.

Check the currency, unit and date of a gold-price reference. That market input is not itself a bid for your jewelry. Our valuation checklist helps separate known inputs from assumptions.

Keep complete-jewelry value in the discussion

Damage does not remove the gold already present in a chain. It can, however, change a piece's suitability for resale as jewelry. Ask whether stones, design, condition or maker information deserve consideration before calling everything scrap.

Bring reports for a significant diamond and matching paperwork for a signed piece. Our guides to Cartier jewelry, Tiffany jewelry and inherited collections explain the additional questions. A watch also needs its own evaluation; see the Rolex selling guide.

Consider the complete piece and its components without counting the same value twice. An intact jewelry resale estimate already includes the material in that jewelry; it is not automatically an amount to add to the full metal and stone values.

Compare the selling process as well as the price

A local evaluation allows a direct conversation about the actual items. A mail-in buyer needs to receive them before completing a physical examination, so shipping, insurance, return arrangements and timing matter. Read those terms before sending valuables. Our local versus online buyer guide covers that decision.

Ask whether a proposal is an outright purchase, trade-in, consignment or loan. Those arrangements should not be compared as though they all provide the same unconditional purchase payment. A business category alone does not establish which offer is strongest for your particular collection.

Compare final offer with final offer

Suppose one buyer gives a high estimate from a photograph while another examines the jewelry and gives a purchase amount. Those figures are based on different information. Ask what assumptions the estimate used and what could change after inspection.

  • Which items and accessories are included?
  • What purity, weight and units were used?
  • How were stones and complete-jewelry resale considered?
  • Are any charges, conditions or further checks outstanding?
  • What is the final amount, and how long is it available?
  • What are the payment method and timing?

No single payout percentage applies to every piece. Compare the net amounts offered on a consistent basis and ask for an explanation if the included items or terms change.

Prepare the visit and payment arrangements

Bring the actual items, detached parts and any matching receipts, reports, boxes or repair records. Avoid aggressive cleaning or dismantling. Confirm any requested identification and documents when arranging the visit.

For large quantities of scrap, heavy chains or gold and silver coins, call 310-663-1340 with an approximate description of the collection. Payment is available by cash, bank wire or business check. Discuss your preference and timing before accepting an offer.

Can I sell only part of a collection?

Identify the pieces you want to sell and ask for a revised offer for that group. An amount quoted for an entire lot does not automatically apply to a smaller selection.

Do I need the original receipt for ordinary gold jewelry?

Bring it if available, but the material must still be evaluated. Ask what identification or ownership documents are needed for the transaction, and keep useful reports with the matching pieces.
