Sellers from San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, the Peninsula and Marin bring gold and natural diamonds to our store in the Downtown Los Angeles Jewelry District. If you are holding heavy gold or a large natural diamond, a planned visit gets you an in-person, item-specific offer, with no obligation to sell.
This guide is written by Navid, owner of Cash 4 Gold & Diamonds at 617 S. Hill Street, who has been buying gold, natural diamonds and luxury watches in Downtown Los Angeles since 2007. It explains who usually makes the trip, how to decide whether it is worth it and how to plan the visit.
Who makes the trip from the Bay Area
We buy gold in any amount. Travel tends to make the most sense for larger items, such as:
- Heavy gold chains, Cuban links and bracelets
- Gold bars and gold bullion coins
- Estate and inherited gold collections
- Natural diamonds of any size or shape, loose or set in rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets
- Rolex and other luxury watches
Is the trip worth it? Run the numbers first
Decide with numbers rather than hope. Take the offer you expect in Los Angeles, subtract the best final offer you can get at home, then subtract airfare, ground transport and your time. If what is left is meaningful to you, the trip makes sense; if it is not, sell closer to home.
How offers work: For gold jewelry, Cash 4 Gold & Diamonds pays 90–95% based on daily market value, depending on the specific jewelry item and evaluation. This is not a guarantee, and it does not apply automatically to diamonds, watches, coins, gold bars or platinum. The final amount reflects verified karat, net gold weight and the complete item.
A phone or online estimate from any buyer is not a final offer. The highest preliminary quote is not always the highest final offer, so compare final, item-specific offers after your items have been evaluated.
What we buy
- Gold jewelry, broken and scrap gold, and heavy Cuban chains and bracelets
- Gold and silver coins, gold bars and platinum
- Natural, cut and polished diamonds of any size or shape, loose or set
- Rolex and other luxury watches, with or without the original box and papers
- Estate, inherited, antique and signed jewelry
We buy only large, high-quality green Colombian emeralds, Burmese rubies and Ceylon blue sapphires. Certificates are welcome but not required. We do not buy laboratory-grown, uncut or rough diamonds, and we do not make loans.

Large natural diamonds
A large natural diamond is valued one stone at a time: shape, carat weight, color, clarity, cut, condition and any existing grading report all matter. Bring every report you have, such as the GIA natural diamond reports sellers often carry; a report number can be looked up with GIA Report Check. A report is welcome but not required.
Do not remove a stone from its setting yourself; bring the complete piece. Our large diamond buyer guide explains what goes into a large-diamond offer.

Questions from Bay Area sellers
Do you have a San Francisco location?
No. Our only store is at 617 S. Hill Street in the California Jewelry Mart in Downtown Los Angeles. We are not affiliated with similarly named businesses in other cities.
Is there a minimum amount of gold?
No. We buy gold in any amount. For a trip from the Bay Area, larger lots make the travel cost easier to justify.
Do you buy large diamonds without a certificate?
Yes. Certificates are welcome but not required. We buy natural, cut and polished diamonds of any size or shape, loose or set. We do not buy laboratory-grown, uncut or rough diamonds.
Do I need an appointment?
An appointment is strongly recommended for out-of-town sellers so the visit can be planned. The store is open Monday–Friday, 11 a.m.–5 p.m., and closed Saturday and Sunday.
Am I obligated to sell after the evaluation?
No. You can hear the offer and decide. You are never obligated to sell just because you asked for an evaluation.
