10K Gold Price Per Gram: Understanding Pawn-Shop Offers
10K gold is nominally 10/24 gold, about 41.67%. A fine-gold price per gram multiplied by that fraction gives a theoretical metal reference per gram of 10K alloy. A pawn-shop purchase offer or loan amount is a different figure and has its own terms.
Convert the price before applying purity
Check the currency, date and unit of a gold-price reference. If the quote is per troy ounce, convert to grams before using a jewelry weight in grams. NIST's mass conversions give approximately 31.1035 grams per troy ounce.
For 10K alloy, multiply a fine-gold rate per gram by 10/24. The World Gold Council lists karat and fineness proportions, including the 417 convention associated with 10K. The actual piece still needs material verification.
Work through a clearly hypothetical example
Suppose the net weight is ten grams of verified 10K alloy, with stones and non-alloy components excluded. Nominal contained gold is 10 × 10 ÷ 24, or approximately 4.1667 grams.
If fine gold were hypothetically $100 per gram, that contained gold would have a theoretical reference amount of about $416.67. This is an illustration, not today's price or a purchase offer. A whole-item scale reading that includes other materials would need further adjustment before using this calculation.
Ask whether the quote already includes the karat adjustment
A buyer may express a proposed rate per gram of verified 10K alloy. That is different from a fine-gold market rate. Applying the 10/24 factor again to an already adjusted 10K rate would reduce it twice.
